Library

The Mission of the Department of Applied science and Engineering is to provide our graduate with well rounded engineering education with specific emphasis on Applied Science.

Our Library is well-maintained. We have about 6924 Books and 1095 Titles around 350 bound volumes of National and International journals. More than 35 journals and periodicals are subscribed to currently which facilitates research in our college. College Library has subscribing e-Journals i.e. J-GATE,McGRAW- Beside this, we have Book Bank Scheme for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Students and a Book Bank scheme for other students also on payment basis.

We also have subscription to multiple copies of National, regional, and local news-papers and magazines. We have a very good Reading Room, where users of the library can fine calm – the total environment is conducive to reading.

Book Bank

Technological Lending Library

The textbooks from the TLL Section are loaned out for one semester to the students whose parents income falls below the taxable limit. Eligible students may apply for books from the TLL as per the schedule announced by the Library. Students are invited to give their suggestions for keeping this collection updated on regular basis.

Special Collection (BC) for SC/ST Students

Selected books are made available for issue for a period of one semester to the students belonging to SC/ST. Eligible students may apply for books from the special collection as per the schedule announced by the Library.

STUDY ROOM BOOKS

Textbooks recommended by the concerned faculty members for different courses are kept in the study room collection at the circulation counter for the period specified by the faculty. These books can be used in the library against Identity Card. Only one book can be issued to a student against Identity Card, for an overnight, to be returned the next day by 2 p.m. A late fee of Rs. 25.00 per day is charged for overdue books (Rs. 50/- during examination period).

Reference Service

The Library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, technical data, almanacs, atlases, bibliographies, CD -ROMs, Audio and Video cassettes, etc. Reference books are marked  and Rare Reference are marked . The collection marked “is kept under lock and key.

The Reference Section also houses videos and DVDs. The viewing facility is extended to the students, staff and faculty of the Institute from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on all working days.

Readers may approach the Reference Desk for information or any assistance in the use of the Library Collections and Services. Users may also contact the Reference Division for CD ROM-based search services and web-based services.

Inter-Library Loan

The institute library offers inter-library loan service to its users for the books and periodicals not available in the Jamia Institute of Engineering & Management Studies, Library by procuring them from other libraries. The Jamia Institute of Engineering & Management Studies, in turn, also lends its resources to the libraries of other government and academic institutions on reciprocal basis. The Jamia Institute of Engineering & Management Studies, Libraries already have an ongoing inter-library cooperation programme. Under the programme, the photocopies of research articles are exchanged on requests amongst several libraries.

Reprographic Facility

The Central Library offers photocopying service to all its members, walk-in users and others. Only single copy of journal articles and book chapters are provided for private study and research purpose. The service is free to all the faculty members of Jamia Institute of Engineering & Management Studies. Please contact: Incharge, Library.

  • The Photocopying Unit is available in the library and its timings are 9.30 am – 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm – 5.30 pm from Monday to Friday.

Library Hours and Holidays

Study room books issued for overnight, one hour before closing of the library on all days.

A drop box has been placed near security check point. Library members desiring to return the borrowed books can be dropped them in the box. Bound volumes of journals, loose issues, pamphlets and standards are issued from the issue counter on working days.

How can an outsider use the Jamia Institute of Engineering & Management Studies, Library?

Faculty, Students and researchers from Government education Institutions and organizations are allowed to refer the Library against introduction letters from their respective institutions. An individuals affiliated to corporate bodies like industries, can use the Library as Corporate Members. Although individuals are discouraged to make use of the Library, they may contact the Head, Circulation for seeking permission for a limited period of time.

What types of documents are kept in the Reference Collection?

References collection mainly contains, encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries, directories, atlases, audio, video and some rare collection

How can you distinguish reference books from other library collection?

Reference books are marked “R” and “RR” on left-side top corner on the front page of the book.

Does the Library have facilities to view video cassettes?

Yes, video cassettes can be viewed in the reference section from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on all working days except holidays, Saturdays and Sundays. Please contact, Incharge Reference Section.

Which bibliographic CD-ROM databases are available in the library?

Can I get the reference books issued?
Reference books are issued to faculty/equivalent project staff for three days and research scholar for one day from journals section counter.
What type of documents is kept in the Pamphlet Section?
Pamphlet section houses theses & dissertations, pamphlets, reports (including annual reports), standards, photocopies of journal articles, conference proceedings, patents, faculty publications etc.
Can we refer to M. Tech Dissertations/Ph.D. theses?
The Jamia Institute of Engineering & Management Studies, staff, students and Faculty can refer to M. Tech dissertations/Ph.D. theses. Outsiders are not allowed to refer to dissertations and theses.
Can the dissertation/theses/standards be issued?
Standards/reports/pamphlets/photocopies are issued to faculty/equivalent project staff. Theses and dissertations are not issued.
Is there a fine for late return of books?
Every category of member is required to pay late fee, as per the late fee structure, if he/she fails to return the books within prescribed period of time. All students can see their late fee details on library notice board.
Where can I pay Library dues?
Library dues (late fees/cost of books) can be paid in cash, at Library Cash Counter on the mezzanine floor of the Library.
What are the issue/return timings in the Library?
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all working days and 11.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M on Saturdays. No issue/return transactions on Sundays and Holidays. Members desiring to return books on holidays can drop these books in DROP BOX kept near Security Checkpoint.
How can I use study room books?
All students can borrow one study room book against his/her I card for consultation within the Library and for overnight issue one hour before the closing of the Library.
Can books be reserved if issued?
Yes, all members of the Library can reserve maximum 3 books. On one book 4 claims can be entertained at a time.
I have lost a book, what am I required to do?
Immediately declare the book as lost on prescribed application form. The latest procurement cost will be intimated to you, to pay for the cost of book.
If I do not get the book on shelve what can I do?
First contact concerned staff responsible for shelving of books in that area. You may also contact professionals in counter or In-charge, Circulation Section.
Can I bring my own book in the Library?
No, you are not allowed to bring the personal books in the Library. The Library has a Reading Room in Library basement where you can go with your personal books.
How can you help in visiting other important libraries?
The Library will issue you an introductory letter that might help you to visit other Libraries.
Can the Library borrow documents from other libraries?
Yes, the Library can arrange books and copies of articles on inter-library loan from other libraries, If the request is routed through guide / faculty.
Is it accessible E-RESOURCES by all the users?
No, access to e-resources is provided only to Jamia Institute of Engineering & Management Studies, students, faculty (including retired faculty) and staff within the campus.
